Sunday Scribblings # 158: What scares you?

It might sound silly but this question feels so intimate. What scares me?

  • Not being able to protect/provide for my family.
  • Not achieving my goals.
  • Not being able to have children: This would be a killer for me. I know adoption is a viable option but I want to go through the stages of pregnancy & see my body change, experience the pain of labour, hold my wet-as-a-seal newborn & marvel that he/she is flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood.
  • Sickness; there's so many deadly & incapacitating conditions out there, I'd be terrified to find out something (a tumour) is growing inside me, sucking the life out of me. Also, HIV scares me. I call it the 'monster'. Thousands upon thousands are dying each day, while thousands upon thousands contract it.
  • Being broke (again). I grew up in a household that was never quite financially stable, & although it made me who I am today, I still get nervous about being a dollar too short.
  • Silly stuff: Ghosts (yes, I believe in spirits), squirrels (they're like rats with furry tails, I always imagine they want to attack me), gaining weight (I know, I know. It's silly right? It must be the European in me. I've been weight conscious (i.e mortally obsessed) since 10 years old, thank you mommy!)

No fears are silly. I hate, I mean, hate, wet hair, especially between my toes. My older sister used to chase my twin sister and I with hair pulled out of a hairbrush. We'd scream until we cried.

What weight to lose??? You??? I don't even think so!

I can't say I'd ever like to 'enjoy' the pain of childbirth again! I can remember it after 40 years! But the new baby is definitely a joy.

Yep, there's lots to scare people, but I reckon nothing's more scary than being scared, so I don't bother.

You can now find all the prompt site news on my blog.

hey well done you for honesty in the fear department! mind you your post reminds me of the game weakness conversion... in this case, for every fear there is a corresponding hope...

@ Chocolate covered dreams: That is so hilarious! I never met anyone with a fear of wet hair. I love it. :)

@ Natalie: No problem. It was a pleasure reading your post.

@ Rinkly Rimes: LOL. I bet when I'm going through child birth, I'll kick myself for ever wanting to 'experience' it!

@ Anthony north:
That's a wise aproach to life. Perhaps the only thing we should fear, is fear itself.

@ UnderstandingAlice:
I never heard of the weakness conversion game, but I like how you put it :)

thx u guys for checking out my blog!

Pretty normal womanly fears to my mind. I hope you experience all the good ones and avoid the bad ones. Thanks for visiting me, but eating centipedes, dunno if I could. He he.

I've got a recipe for squirrel casserole! Not nearly as scary when they are cooked! Excellent list.

'wet-as-a-seal newborn'what a lovely expression! Quite a list you have there.

There is nothing to be scared of in life. Just be yourself and think postive!

as discussed in a writer's workshop

These are valid 'scares' for sure, but doubt that fearing any one of them will stop it from occurring and that's scary! Nice post!

We should all make a list like yours and keep it tucked into a wallet or purse. Pull it out from time-to-time and remind ourselves of what we are afraid of - thus giving us strength to face everything.

@ americanising desi: I've had an ectopic pregancy, so my fertility is a little lower now... but don't worry, we'll both have babies & we'll post their pictures on our blogs! :)

@ Love life like there is...
I'm glad I made you feel something and consider your options :)

@ Linda May: Don't knock eating insects until you try, lol, I might take keith ramblings' advice & try his squirrel stew. LOL.

@Rosey.
Yup, I have quite a list. I'm a scarey cat!

@ Gautami
I'm working on it!

@ Tumblewords
You are right. I still have to see squirrels almost everyday. Not too long ago, my fear of them was justified when I saw a sick squirrel with half her fur missing and crazy eyes, I felt so bad for her.

@ Thom G.
I'll be printing out my post ;)

@ Deeptesh poetry
Thx u for passing through, I visited your blog, beautiful writing. Hope you come by often.

@Floreta
I think a lot of peopl (myself included) have that fear. Love takes so much, and sometimes gives so little in return. It is scary. I guess the trick is to find someone that will make you want to settle down.

Well, that's quite a list, but I think many of those are common to a lot of people. And some people might consider some silly, but remember that you might not understand their fears, either!

We all have different triggers!

Hi - nice post - very candid! :)

I wish I was weight conscious too - I am never scared to look over weight and therein lies my laziness to get rid of my extra kilos... :P
